JMeetups is a nonprofit Jewish dating platform built on the principle that safety, dignity, and respect come first. This page explains the controls we have in place to keep the community safe.

How profiles are approved

Every JMeetups profile is manually reviewed by our moderation team before it becomes visible to other members. We check that photos show a real person, are not heavily filtered or obscured, and contain no inappropriate or explicit content. Profiles that don't meet our content guidelines are rejected with a reason and may be resubmitted.

Every photo uploaded after approval — including replacement photos — goes through the same human review before it appears on the platform.

How we handle messages

JMeetups members can message each other once their profiles are approved. We do not use automated scanning of private messages, and we do not read every message between members. To keep the community safe, our admins and moderation team may occasionally review messages, images, and attachments for safety and moderation purposes. In particular, we may review:

  • Messages, images, attachments, or profiles reported through our in-app reporting tools
  • Messages or accounts brought to our attention by law enforcement or other lawful authorities
  • Messages or accounts under active investigation for policy violations, suspected illegal activity, or user safety concerns

Messages are stored encrypted at rest (AES-256) and are retained for up to 90 days from the date sent. Deleted messages are purged from our primary systems within 30 days, unless preserved under a legal hold.

Reporting another user

If another member sends you a message or has profile content that violates our community guidelines — harassment, threats, fake identity, inappropriate content, requests for money — you can report them directly from their profile or from a message thread. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.

Reports involving suspected child exploitation, sexual images of minors, online enticement, sextortion, trafficking, threats of violence, or imminent harm are escalated for urgent review.

If you experience harassment or unwanted contact, you can also block or unmatch a user at any time from their profile.

What we report to authorities

JMeetups reports apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM), online enticement of minors, sexual exploitation of minors, minor sex trafficking, sextortion involving minors, and other reportable child exploitation content or activity to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline when we obtain actual knowledge of it. We may also preserve evidence and report threats of imminent harm, trafficking, extortion, fraud, violence, or other illegal activity to law enforcement or appropriate authorities. See our Law Enforcement Guidelines for details.

NCMEC's CyberTipline is specifically for suspected online child exploitation and includes categories beyond CSAM, such as online enticement, child sex trafficking, and unsolicited obscene material sent to a child.

Account actions we take

  • Warning: a moderator-issued notice that behavior on the account violated our guidelines.
  • Profile rejection: a profile or photo does not meet our content standards and is not published until corrected.
  • Suspension: the account is temporarily disabled while we investigate.
  • Ban: the account is permanently closed for repeated or serious violations.
  • Removal & report to authorities: for content involving suspected illegal activity, we may preserve evidence and report to law enforcement in addition to closing the account.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell or share members' personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We do not use members' photos for advertising or training purposes.
  • We do not allow commercial activity, fundraising, or off-platform solicitation through JMeetups.
  • We do not allow employees or moderators to browse private messages for personal reasons. Message and content review is limited to safety, moderation, legal, security, support, or compliance purposes.
